MAA Annual Leadership Conference

Building a neighborly vibe

Making a house a home is a lifelong task. But making nearly 80,000 apartments home to their residents is a monumental task that calls for a high-energy, unified team. That’s what MAA created when they partnered with LEO to reenergize their Annual Leadership Conference.

Nearly 15 years ago, Mid-America Apartment Communities (MAA), a real estate investment trust that focuses on the acquisition, selective development, redevelopment and management of multifamily homes, reached out LEO to coordinate its DMC events. And like a reliable, good neighbor, LEO has been by their side ever since.

Most recently, MAA looked to LEO to take their Annual Leadership Conference to the next level—challenging us to create a more connected and energetic atmosphere. And when your business is operating approximately 80,000 apartment homes in 254 communities in 15 states, your annual meeting becomes a critical time to regroup and refuel the entire corporate team. LEO was well prepared for the challenge.

From the beginning, the goal was clear: MAA wanted to give its 450 attendees and 75 vendors a fresh, fun experience that promoted connectedness among company leaders and employees. Working closely with the MAA internal team, LEO helped to develop the conference theme “A Brighter View.” LEO supported that vision by designing a series of events and activities that tied back to the theme, along with a meeting that was exceptionally executed to the service level that MAA is known for and demands.

With LEO handling the heavy lifting in logistics, transportation, and operations for the conference and off-site activities, the MAA team was free to focus on conference goals, objectives, and sponsorship. The meeting was held in February and the weather lived up to its winter season moniker. Yet, despite the challenges of flight delays and icy roads, LEO flawlessly executed 450 arrivals, departures, and all transfers.

Together, LEO and MAA executed a leadership dinner, divisional receptions and meetings, a vendor expo coupled with an off-site appreciation party, group excursions, and an awards gala in true Memphis style that left guests surprised and reenergized.
